The Rotary Club of Roselle-Roselle Park will be accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors in Roselle and Roselle Park, who are planning to attend a two-year or four-year college or university, or a vocational or technical school after graduation; applications open April 19, 2021.

The club hosts a Student of the Month program during the school year, where high school seniors are nominated by their guidance counselors for their impressive academic achievements and service in their community.  This year, the club will award six scholarships; two $750 academic scholarships, two $500 vocational scholarships, one $500 Rotary Interact Club member scholarship (Roselle Park High School), and one $500 Marine Corps Jr. ROTC scholarship (Abraham Clark High School).

In its 2020 report, Trends in College Pricing and Student Aid, the College Board reports that a moderate college budget for an in-state student attending a four-year public college in 2020-2021 averages $26,820. For out-of-state students at public colleges, the average budget comes to $43,280, and for students attending private colleges, the average budget is $54,880. In terms of financial aid, the average grant aid awarded per student was $7,330 at public colleges and $21,660 at private schools.

College expenses often include items that are not billed in tuition such as local transportation, clothing, personal items, and entertainment. According to the College Board report, expenses in this category range from $2,870 at private colleges to $3,400 at public universities for the academic year 2020-2021. “With the rising costs of a college education, coupled with the economic stress from the Covid pandemic, we are pleased to help young scholars with their post-secondary educational expenses”, said Courtney Washington – President Elect and co-chair of the Rotary Club’s Scholarship Committee.

The deadline to apply for the scholarships is May 21, 2021 at 11:59pm.  To apply for the scholarship, please visit Rotary Club of Roselle-Roselle Park 2021 Scholarships
