The Rotary Club of Roselle - Roselle Park was founded February 23, 1923 and chartered on April 30, 1923. This past April, we celebrated our 85th Anniversary as a Rotary Club. In looking back our Rotary Club has not only served the Boroughs of Roselle and Roselle Park but the international community as well with honor and a commitment that exemplifies our motto of “Service Above Self.” I can truthfully say, our members look forward to many, many more years of service to the local and international community.
Our club is one of 43 clubs in Rotary District 7510 which is located in Central New Jersey. Over the years we have been one of the outstanding clubs in the district. Our weekly newsletter, CHIPS, and our Website have been honored by District Governors. Our past presidents have received the Presidential Citation and were honored by RI President Boyd for being a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club. Last year, we received recognition for every members supporting PolioPlus and contributing to the Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Club of Roselle - Roselle Park, over the years, has been involved with many worthwhile projects including career expos, student loan and scholarship programs, sent students to Boys and Girls State, supported Cub Packs and Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops, youth sports, ambulance squads, libraries, the Battered Women of Union County, the Inter-Faith Council and last year the Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The club for many years has distributed holiday food baskets to the needy and donated a life-saving defibrillator to each community center. Two projects that make proud to be a Rotarian are the Student of the Month Program where we honor students from both Abraham Clark High School and Roselle Park High School and our Dictionary Project where we give every third grader in the twin boroughs a dictionary. Since Rotary is an International Organization, our Rotary Club has served the international community as well. We have supported a leprosy colony in India, a water project in Senegal and orphanages in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. We sponsored the SOS Children's Village in Austria and with the help of the Rotary Club of Kenilworth, built and equipped a hospital in the Philippines. Additionally, our club contributed over $129,000 to the Rotary Foundation and has been a long-time supporter of Rotary's polio eradication initiative through its POLIOPLUS Program. Our membership represents a diverse cross section of the business and professional community of our two towns. Our members include, an auditor, a bakery owner, bankers, a public school superintendent, a public school business administrator, an electrician, an engineer, a financial advisor, a funeral director, a guidance counselor, an insurance agent, a landscaper, a lawyer, a former police chief, a sign manufacturer, a telecommunication representative, and a tire distributor. Our club is honored to have a member, James Simmons, who served as a District 7510 Governor during the 1992 – 1993 Rotary Year. Continued membership growth is essential to sustaining a Rotary Club. We are always looking for more women and men to join us in service to others. I urge you to explore our website and hope that you find it informative.
